Choosing the right transportation management system (TMS) can be a game changer for your business. With so many options available, it’s crucial to know what features to look for to ensure efficiency and growth in trucking management. Here are five essential features your TMS should have to provide the best experience for your trucking company.
In today’s remote-work world, cloud access is necessary. Your TMS should be accessible from anywhere, whether you’re in the office, at home, or on the road. Cloud-based platforms allow your business to scale without limits, adapting to the size of your fleet as you grow. Plus, with everything stored securely online, you never have to worry about losing data or being tied to one location. Proper trucking management benefits greatly from these features.
When evaluating a TMS, always ask about the total cost. While many providers offer demos highlighting their core features, they often hide additional fees for third-party integrations. These hidden costs can add up fast. At Tracx we eliminate extra charges by including features like built-in EDI compliance, saving you thousands in data exchange fees. Avoid unexpected costs by making sure you know exactly what’s included in your TMS. Efficient trucking management depends on clear and honest pricing.
Your TMS should integrate smoothly with your existing systems like QuickBooks, Sage, or GPS tracking. Too often, companies buy into promises of integration, which leads to frustration when their tools don’t sync properly. To avoid this, make sure the TMS can connect with the systems you already use, and ask for proof of seamless integration. This will save you time and prevent future headaches in your trucking management.
Clear, high-level reporting is non-negotiable. Your TMS should offer intuitive, user-friendly reporting that allows you to easily track your business performance and identify growth opportunities. Look for a system that provides customizable reports tailored to your needs. The ability to generate accurate, actionable data quickly will help you make informed business decisions in trucking management.
Great customer support is crucial. Waiting hours or days for help when something goes wrong can be a nightmare. Before committing to any TMS, ask about their support response times and how quickly issues are resolved. Look for companies that guarantee timely support and offer comprehensive training to get you and your team up to speed on the system. Good customer support is pivotal in trucking management.
